Un ex-asesor de Jimmy Carter a favor de derribar los cazas israelíes que ataquen Irán

... cuando éstos atraviesen el cielo de Iraq, camino de la república islámica... El espacio aéreo es inviolable, oye... Es la excusa para defender al régimen de los ayatolás.

"Are we just going to sit there and watch?" Brzezinski asked.
He said the U.S. has to be "serious" about denying Israel the right to fly over
U.S.-patrolled airspace in Iraq to attack Iran.
"That means a denial where you aren't just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not," he said.

The Liberty was a U.S. ship in international waters in the Middle East during the Six-Day War in 1967 that was hit by Israeli gunfire.
Brzezinski advised Carter on confrontations in Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East during Carter's White House tenure.

Éste es el que asesoraba a Carter cuando se produjo la revolución islámica en Irán, la invasión soviética de Afganistán... En fin, un portento de vigorosa política exterior. Aunque sobre Afganistán aporta un dato:

Es decir, que Carter no comenzó a financiar a los muyahidines afganos tras la invasión soviética, sino seis meses antes, forzando de esta manera -según el asesor Bzezhinski- la entrada de los rusos para defender a su régimen títere. "Los rusos ya tienen su guerra de Vietnam...". Habían caído en la trampa.

Aunque esta explicación tiene truco; y es ver las cosas cuando ya se han producido. Analizarlas a toro pasado. ¿De verdad que en seis meses habían formado un ejército de desharrapados capaz de poner en peligro al gobierno títere afgano? ¿Cómo estaban tan seguros de que los soldados soviéticos intervendrían directamente, en lugar de armar a los títeres? ¿Tan previsible era que Afganistán se convirtiera en un avispero imposible?
Lo cierto es que Carter abandonó la presidencia con los rusos bien asentados en Afganistán y los islamistas logrando en Irán un sorpasso histórico.
